Course Update – July 14th

Posted on July 14th, 2020

Hello, MVGC Community,

Things are progressing well. Derek and his staff have the golf course in fantastic shape. The last two greens were opened the week of July 4th.

We would like to make it clear to all golfers that the pro-shop staff is committed to making everyone’s day as enjoyable as possible. To that effect, we would like to remind all players of a few things.

The pro-shop is responsible for the control of play and tee times. In this regard it is necessary that all players check in with the pro-shop so, that in case of an emergency we know you’re on the course and so we can get an accurate round count.

Also, it is required that if we get you started on the second nine for that day that you check in with the pro-shop before continuing on the first nine for that day. It is unacceptable, and just plain rude to try to skip ahead of those groups who have reserved tee times days in advance.

It is against policy to play in a group of more then four without prior permission of the pro-shop. Although you may think that if you are playing in a fivesome and keeping up to the pace of play that you aren’t breaking any rules, you are. Other golfers see groups playing as five, and then proceed to pester the pro-shop staff, asking why it is okay for some groups to play as five, but others can’t. Permission to play in a fivesome or more will be allowed in certain circumstances but determined by the pro-shop based on a number of variables. Please, do not, by any means ever, come with the expectation that you will be allowed to play in a fivesome whenever you feel like it.

Next, we would like to congratulate the four winners of the Yukon Golf Championships.

Men’s Division – Landon Kulych

Women’s Division – Sharon Walsh

Senior Men’s Division – Chris Bennett

Junior Division – Aimery Barrault

The MVGC Club Championships will be held August 8th and 9th. Entry fees will be $70 for adults and seniors and $30 for juniors. Sign up will open next week, and will close Wednesday, August 5th at 9pm. This tournament is for MVGC members with a valid Golf Canada handicap only.

From tonight until August 25th, Special Olympics athletes will be using the driving range on Tuesday nights from 5:45pm until 7:15pm. There will still be 3 range stalls available for public use, but we will not be taking reservations for these slots. Please respect the space of the athletes and coaches during this time.

For any parents looking to get their children started in the game of golf, we have a large selection of junior-sized clubs available in the shop. Stop by to check for sizes.

We have the ability to custom order merchandise from a variety of suppliers. If we do not carry a brand you’re searching for, ask Abe or Luke about it in the shop.

Please check in at the pro-shop for some fantastic merchandise deals.

Next Friday, July 24th, we have a corporate golf event happening on the course. There will be no available tee times from 10am to approximately 430pm. We cannot guarantee cart availability for those playing later in the evening at this time.

Thank you for your patience,

Abe Buckle – Director of Golf

Course Update

Posted on June 23rd, 2020

Hello MVGC community,

Some updates to share.

We have received our shipment of demo drivers, fairway woods and hybrids from Taylormade, as well as two sets of right handed demo irons. If you are looking into upgrading your equipment, we can now help you get what is right for your game.
Soon we will be announcing an incentive program for anyone who purchases 2020 Taylormade equipment from the shop (this will include custom orders).

If you’ve been in the shop recently, you will have seen that we received our shipment of Skechers golf shoes. Members receive 15% off their first pair!

The Yukon Golf Championships will go ahead as planned on July 4th and 5th, just without a formal prize ceremony afterwards. Registration is $40 for members, $90 for public players and $25 for juniors. All participants must have a valid Golf Canada handicap. Sign up in the shop before July 2nd. The greens on holes 2 and 15 will be open for play for the tournament.

One reminder we would like to give to all players is that because we are so busy some days, we are trying to accommodate as many golfers as possible. Occasionally we will send a group that is only playing 9 holes off the opposite nine from the side we started on for the day. This means that if you play faster than the pace of play on your first nine, you may find a group teeing off ahead of you on the second nine. We have no desire to hold anyone up in their round or penalize anyone for playing fast, but we are sending players off the back nine based on a 2 hour and 8 minute pace. This is why you could possibly be held up for a few minutes at the turn.

Thank you for all your patience. The golf course is in tremendous shape, and the greens on holes 2 and 15 will be back to normal very soon, thanks to Derek and his staff.

Men’s League, Online Booking and Course Update

Posted on May 30th, 2020

Hello MVGC,

Some exciting updates!

First, golfers can now book 18-hole tee times online! Visit the “Book A Tee Time” tab on our website, or go to  https://visualgolf.ca/vgapps/Home/Index/736/en to create an account and book a tee time at Mountain View Golf Club. We understand there could be some technical issues with this system to start off, so if you are unsure of your booking, don’t hesitate to call the shop. 9 hole tee times and singles booking are both unavailable with this system.

Second, Men’s League will be returning this week. We will begin taking registrations for teams this Thursday, June 4th. We would ask that all team registrations be done in person and not over the phone. If you are unable to come on Thursday, you may call the shop or visit on a different day to register. June 4th will be the unofficial start of Men’s League, with the official start being June 11th, 2020. The fees are $60 for a MVGC member and $75 for a public player. Any non-members joining men’s league will play at a discounted rate. All men’s league players must also pay the $45 Golf Canada Handicap fee upon registration. We will be continuing with the $5 dollar game, but with a fun new format and scoring system.

We have relaxed some of our Covid-19 restrictions as the territory begins to re-open the economy. We will now allow golfers living in the same household to ride in a power cart together. We will still be enforcing our rule of only two carts per group, and we still offer a single rider rate to players riding by themselves. We will also be starting to put more merchandise for sale in the shop in the coming weeks. We simply ask that everyone exercise patience as some of our orders could be delayed due to Covid-19.

Finally, the greens on 12 and 18 are now open, leaving temporary greens on only holes 1,2,6 and 15. Players can now track their handicap with Back-9 scores.

Thank you once again for your continuing patience. We have seen an incredible turnout almost every day since we opened, including several new members. This is always very exciting for us.

We look forward to seeing you out at the course for a round soon.

Air North Midnight Sun Scramble

Posted on May 28th, 2020

To all golfers who registered for the Air North Midnight Sun Scramble,

It is with great regret that we are announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Air North Midnight Sun Scramble.

Given the risks surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, we are unable to safely conduct the event in the way we would like, with a formal gathering and prize presentation in our event tent. Current social distancing measures and health restrictions prevent us from holding a gathering of as many as 150 people. The health and safety of our members, staff, and everyone who plays golf at Mountain View Golf Club is our most important concern, and we cannot justify holding this event without putting anyone’s health at risk.
Full refunds for all registered players will be processed. Please contact Abe for refund options at the pro-shop, at 867-633-6020. If possible, please wait until Monday, June 1st to contact Abe.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience, and apologize for any inconvenience. We are looking forward to the return of the Air North Midnight Sun Scramble in June 2021.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing everyone out for a round of golf this summer.

Course Update

Posted on May 19th, 2020

Hello MVGC Community,
We have exciting news!

This Saturday, May 23rd, some of our greens will be open for play. Derek and his staff have been working very hard to get these greens looking absolutely incredible, and we are excited to get on them as soon as possible.

With some of the greens opening, we will be changing our green fees to our corporate rates. 9 holes will cost $32 plus GST, and 18 holes will cost $55 plus GST.

We are still strictly enforcing our policy of only one person and one set of golf clubs on a power cart, and only two power carts per group. We have introduced single-rider rates of $12.50 plus GST for 9 holes and $20 plus GST for 18 holes. This will continue until certain restrictions are lifted that will allow us to let two people ride in a cart again. Until then, we must keep enforcing our policies.

Also starting Saturday, our first available tee time will move to 9:04am, our last available 18 hole tee time will move to 6pm, and our latest 9 hole tee time will move to 8pm. The driving range hours are 8:30am to 7pm

Bag Tags are available for pickup at the proshop. We will be keeping the member privilege cards in the shop and taking record of the discounts used by each member to prevent card loss.

Again, a reminder to not arrive any earlier than 20 minutes prior to your tee time. Please continue to call to inquire about driving range availability.
Thank you again for your patience.

Tee Time Update

Posted on May 13th, 2020

Hello again MVGC golfers,

Beginning tomorrow, we will be extending the latest 18 hole tee time to 5:28pm, and the latest 9 hole tee time to 7:36pm, and extending the driving range hours to 7:00pm (last ball hit by 7).

Once again, a reminder that while we have power carts available for use on the course, only one person may use the cart and put their clubs on the cart per round. We would also like to reiterate our request that golfers arrive at the course no earlier than 20 minutes before their tee time.
Also we are still taking reservations for the driving range if you are not playing a round of golf, so please call the pro-shop to inquire about range availability.

Also, Under Armour has been nice enough to allow us to offer a 20% discount for the first 80 UA apparel items and accessories sold, from now until July 31st.

Once again, thank you for being so patient and understanding during the process of opening the golf course.

Course Update – Regarding Power Carts and Tees

Posted on May 12th, 2020

Hello Mountain View Golf Club members and guests,

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 13th, we will be allowing power carts out for use on the golf course.
As per our COVID-19 policy, only one player and one set of golf clubs will be allowed on a power cart at all times. This will apply to all golfers, regardless of whether you live in the same household. We will not be making any exceptions to this rule.
Because we are limited to 23 power carts, we will only be renting them out to golfers when it is absolutely necessary for them to use it, meaning if you are able to walk 18 holes, we ask that you do so as much as possible. The cart needs to be used for the entire round by the same person at all times, meaning, no sharing of the cart, switching between holes or between nines.
Also tomorrow, we will be moving tee markers back onto the regular tee boxes, playing approximately halfway between the white and red tee yardage. An update on when the greens will open will come at a later date.
Once again, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we slowly work towards being 100% operational for the remainder of the season.
Thank you,
A.T. (Abe) Buckle – Derek Wirth

Director of Golf – Superintendent

Course Opening Update

Posted on May 5th, 2020

Course Update:

Mountain View Golf Club will be open for play on temporary tees and greens on all 18 holes starting this Friday, May 8th. The holes on the temporary greens will have raised cups.

Tee times will start at 10am. The last 18-hole tee time of the day will be 4:45pm. The latest 9-hole tee time will be 6:45pm.

The course will be open to walking traffic only for the time being. An update on when power carts will be available will come at a later date.

For the time being, all play will begin on the 10th tee (closest to the pro-shop).

To conform to social distancing measures we are asking golfers to arrive at the course no earlier than 20 minutes before their tee time, or you will be asked to remain in the parking lot, and to please leave the course immediately after play.

Anyone that would like to hit balls on the driving range before they play will be limited to one warm-up sized bucket of balls (approx. 30 balls).

The driving range will be open from 9:40am until 6pm (last ball hit by 6pm). Starting Friday we will no longer be taking reservations for the driving range, however we will still be limiting golfers on the range to a maximum of one medium bucket (75 balls), and no longer than 45 minutes on the range.

The practice green and short-game area will remain closed for now.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the golf course, and we thank you for your patience during this difficult time.

Course Update

Posted on April 25th, 2020

As we are quickly approaching the time to dust off your clubs and hit the links, there are going to be some changes to how we operate due to Covid-19. Mountain View’s entire purpose with Covid-19 is to protect our customers and staff. To that point we must limit the surfaces that are available to touch.

The pro-shop will only allow a maximum of 4 people inside at one time and the use of cash is discouraged. What merchandise that is for sale will be in the lounge to view. There will be no returns until after Covid-19 has ended. As of now there will not be any clubs on display.

We are looking at tentatively opening the driving range on Friday May 1st. Because of Covid-19 we will be closing half of the hitting bays on the range so we will be having to institute a reservation policy to insure the 6 foot social distancing policy and no more then 10 individuals in a small area. You will be able to call the pro-shop to reserve a spot. To ensure the best use of the range, reservations will be for 45 minutes and limited to one bucket of balls.  The hours of operation for the range will be from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm (last ball hit by 6). Until the range opens the pro-shop hours are 9:00-3:30.

Club storage will be closed until after Covid-19 has ended. The only exception to this will be for members who are physically unable to lift their clubs in and out of their vehicle. The pro-shop staff will be more then willing to retrieve your clubs before your round and put them away afterwards.

Another update regarding the golf course will be sent next week.

So now is the perfect time to purchase your membership for the upcoming season. Drop by the pro-shop to meet Abe, our new Director of Golf/P.G.A of Canada Head Professional to purchase your membership or our popular 10 game package. Pro-shop. Alternatively call Abe at the shop. 867-633-6020

We ask that you follow managements instructions once at the course to insure everyone’s safety. Signs will be posted around the parking lot and pro-shop with more detailed information.
